This first week we presented our holiday brief. From there I knew I wanted to change the direction of my project in terms of the visual references by moving away from the Samurai armor and to something more personal and use focused. I went back to my original concept which is about making comfortable "home-wear" that allows and encourages interaction and use by the wearer. I decided to do some research on how other people have approached this idea and came across Anja Crabb who designed pieces addressing the 'open and adjust' use practices. She created garments with extra seam allowance and colour coded guidelines to allow the wearer to make alterations to the garment in terms of fit. From this I started to think about what approach I wanted to take. A big inspiration to me has always been my family, specifically my grandma as she taught me how to sew. I also thought about the idea of sharing clothes and how me and my sisters were constantly passing clothes between each other throughout the years and extending their use that way. This made me realise that family plays a big role in teaching us the use practices we will use later in life to interact with our clothing. For next week I want to refine my concept to incorporate this new idea of family and heritage and articulate more clearly my project goals and relevance through developing my zine.
