After defining the concept and purpose of my project he next thing is to think about how this translates into a garment. For this I did some more research to try and find a visual representation of my concept. Since I am interested in the heritage and skills passed by family through clothing I looked into how clothing can represent our heritage and family. From this I did research into Nordic knitwear such as Norwegian and Irish fisherman jumpers. I also looked into the photographer Lewis Hines who photographed immigrants to Ellis Island in early 1900. In his photos you can see the varied dress worn by immigrants from all over Europe. Their clothing tells us about their origins and family status.

I am thinking about creating a line of sweatshirts/jumpers that focus on different use practices and tie in this theme of place and heritage. I started to prototype by making a pattern from a sweatshirt I liked which I could then use a s a base for one of my experiments.
